Anukina Ayvaz of Fresno, a 19 year-old sophomore at California State
University, Fresno has been selected to receive a 2007-08 William R. Hearst/CSU Trustees’ Award for Outstanding Achievement.

Ayvaz and winners from the 22 other campuses in the California State University system will be honored by the trustees on Tuesday, Sept. 16, in Long Beach.

The award provides $3,000 scholarships to students who are high-performing, in need of financial support and who have experienced personal hardships. It also recognizes community service and personal achievements.

Ayvaz, a graduate of Clovis West High School, is majoring in liberal studies with a minor in vocal performance. She maintains a 3.8 GPA and a member of the Smittcamp Family Honors College. She plans to teach elementary school.

A gifted pianist, she is a member of various music ensembles at Fresno State and traveled to China earlier this year to perform as part of the pre-Beijing Olympics cultural events. She plans to enhance her education by traveling to Australia in the future in the University Study Abroad Consortium.

Ayvaz is a teacher’s assistant at a local elementary school and volunteers in the junior high department at her church.
