The priority application period for students seeking admission to a California State University campus for the fall 2009 semester opens on Oct. 1 and ends Nov. 30, 2008.

The final application deadline for freshmen wishing to attend Fresno State is Feb. 1, 2009, but students are encouraged to apply early.

Fresno State is expecting a record number of applications from first-time freshmen for the fall 2009 semester, said Bernie Vinovrksi, associate vice president of Enrollment Services. This year, the university admitted the largest entering class of freshmen with 2,827.

“Due to limitations of the state budget, the university will not have space to accommodate more freshmen than in fall 2008,” Vinovrksi said. “Therefore, eligible freshmen who apply by Nov. 30 are given priority for admission.”

The application categories and deadlines for Fresno State for fall 2008 are:

  • Freshmen – Feb. 1, 2009
  • Upper division transfers – April 1, 2009
  • Returning students – April 1, 2009
  • Postbaccalaureate – April 1, 2009

The postbaccalaureate categories that are open for new applicants are: master’s programs, selected second BA degree programs where there is critical need, credential and advanced certificate applicants.

The university is closed to applications from lower division transfers. “These students are encouraged to continue their education at another institution to complete 60 transferable semester units and apply as upper division transfers,” Vinovrski said.

Students intending to go to any of the 23 CSU campuses as first-time freshmen next fall should visit the Web site www.csumentor.edu to get information and complete the online application.
