Henry Madden Library taking shape

Exterior of the Henry Madden LibraryNew construction and renovation of the Henry Madden Library at Fresno State is on schedule with opening of the building expected in January. Over the last year, the library has been transformed from a steel frame outline to an impressive building with pre-cast concrete walls and glass curtain wall along the north face of the building.

Inside, the general book collection has returned to the below-ground collection level and first floor of the new north wing. Storefront offices, ceiling tile, painting, carpeting, built-in millwork and restrooms are on schedule.

The stunning entryway tile with its Native American basket motif of the Table Mountain Rancheria tribe moving outside to the inside circulation area has been completed. The grand stair stringers have been set and the mesh stair treads and risers are currently being installed. The glass railing and handrail are expected in mid-December.

South wing renovations are being finalized. Walls are up and painting, flooring and HVAC work is in progress.

The exterior site work, including granite stones and the Native American Garden, is near completion and will complement the exterior of the library and the renovated Peace Garden. The Peace Garden's new design adds walkways for better accessibility to the statues and shaded grassy knolls and new benches.

The new Dean Richard Ford Memorial Grove on the northwest corner will be a ring of Chinese Pistachio trees that will shade a curricular pathway and seating area.
