[VIDEO] Students will be limited to 16 units for early registration

To help ensure that all students have the opportunity to obtain classes they need to stay on track toward graduation, California State University, Fresno students enrolling will be limited to 16 units of classes during the early registration period, which begins April 26.
The registration limit, which begins in fall 2010, was recommended by the university’s Academic Affairs Enrollment Management Group and approved by Provost William Covino.
“Students will be informed by the registrar when they receive their enrollment appointment times,” said Dr. Dennis Nef, associate vice president and dean of Undergraduate Studies at Fresno State.
“During the early registration period – April 26-early August,” Nef added, “students will not be able to enroll in and/or waitlist more than 16 units.”
Nef said there are two principal reasons for the action.
“Some students are enrolling in a number of units more than they anticipate completing, then dropping courses after school begins,” Nef said. “That locks out other students from those courses when seats are limited and could affect their progress toward graduation.”
“We also are concerned that courses be available for new students – both freshmen and transfers – who will not be registering until June and July,” Nef added.
Full details will be provided to students as they get their registration times. Students will be able to add units after the early-registration period ends.

I do not agree with this, I am a student at Fresno State, I was planning on completing all my units and graduate in 3 and a half years, because of this restrictions I will not be able to do this, since the university is only offering one seccion of the classes that i need. Therefore I am positive that the classes that i need to take will be full by August and I will only waste a semester.

Of course, Dissagree, the opposite may be true as well: because everyone else has the same restrictions, students who would normally “hoard” the classes you want to get into might not do so, and there might actually be more spots available. Who is to say?

This is just another way to screw the parents and students. Students will not be able to graduate when they want and parents have to pay the same (or more) for less.
