The Leon S. Peters Ethics Lecture Series at California State University, Fresno begins its fall 2010 schedule at 7 p.m. Sept. 30 with a panel discussion of “The Healing Power of Religion.”

The series’ other four lectures will consider the decline of a literate society, ethical issues in this year’s election campaigns, civil disobedience and black Marxism.

The first will be held at the Leon S. and Pete P. Peters Educational Center within the Student Recreation Center (Woodrow and Shaw avenues). All series lectures are open to the public and there is no admission charge.

This event is coordinated by Dr. Sudarshan Kapoor, a professor emeritus of social work education at Fresno State, a founder of the university’s Peace Garden, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary in October.

The Rev. Brian Jessup, pastor of Fresno’s Unitarian Universalist Church; and Dr. Veena Kapoor, who practices Raja Yoga Meditation, will be joined by other discussants exploring core ethical values and how they can help bring people together across religious difference.
