Two of California’s State University, Fresno’s Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology faculty are 2010 Fellows of the American Society of Agronomy (ASA).

Dr. Ganesan Srinivasan, director of the University Agricultural Laboratory (campus farm), and Dr. Bruce Roberts, an associate professor of plant science and the J.G. Boswell Chair of Agronomy, are the only two ASA Fellow recipients in California.

Srinivasan received his B.S. and M.S. degrees for Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, India, his Ph.D from University of Hawaii and an MBA from Purdue.

Prior to joining Fresno State in 2005, he was principal scientist and associate director of the Maize Program at Mexico’s International Center for Maize and Wheat Improvement. He has written hundreds of publications on improved maize germplasm grown worldwide.

Roberts obtained his B.S. from Fresno State, an M.S. from Utah State University and Ph.D from the Univeristy of California, Davis. In addition to teaching, Roberts conducts applied research.

Before joining the university, Roberts spent 22 years as the University of California Cooperative Extension agronomy and cotton farm adviser and the agency’s director in Kings County. He is a former president of the California chapter of the American Society of Agronomy and is the faculty adviser for Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity.

The ASA Fellow designation is the most prestigious honor the organization presents to its more than 8,000 members, awarded to fewer than .3 percent. Fellowship is based upon candidates’ personal and professional achievements in education, research and service to crop science.

The awards will be presented during ASA’s annual meeting Oct. 31-Nov. 3 in Long Beach.
