The 33rd annual Ag Boosters Barbecue will add to the $656,000 the event has raised over the years to benefit students and programs in California State University Fresno’s Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology.

This year’s fundraiser, 4-8 p.m. Sept. 12 at Rancho Vista del Rio (Borba Ranch) in Madera County, will showcase the fruit, vegetables, nuts, dairy, meat and other food products grown, processed and marketed by Fresno State students. The event is hosted by the Ag One Foundation at Fresno State and the California Women for Agriculture (CWA).

In addition to supporting the university, proceeds will help the CWA’s educational efforts.

The affair includes jazz played by Fresno State students and tastings of Fresno State award-winning sausage, almonds, raisins and grapes. Fresno State Winery vintages will be served, and there will be tastings of award-winning Fresno State extra-virgin olive oils.

CWA will host a country store with handmade arts, crafts and baked goods. Also planned are live and silent auctions and a drawing for the Ag One Fantasy Vacation raffle, offering a choice of destinations including Alaska, Hawaii, Scotland, the Azores and Italy.

Since 1979, Ag One has provided 3,100 students with more than $2.1 million in scholarships and grants from an endowment that has grown to more than $14 million. In the 2010-11 academic year, $475,000 will be awarded.

CWA uses funds raised by the barbecue for education and legislative programs and to endow $100,000 in annual scholarship awards.

Tickets are $50 per person, $450 for table of 10 if purchased by Friday, Sept. 3; $60 per person, $550 per table, thereafter. For tickets, contact the Ag One Foundation at 559.278.4266 or click the link below.
