Fresno State student-athletes increased their cumulative Academic Progress Rate (APR) to a record high 975 (of a possible 1,000 points) in data released today by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). That’s 30 points up from three years ago.

All of Fresno State’s sports programs met NCAA standards and no Bulldog intercollegiate sports program is under APR penalties.

Several programs have made significant improvements over the last three years, led by men’s basketball, which improved 107 points (816 to 923), men’s tennis (893 to 976) and baseball (893 to 976). Fifteen of 18 Fresno State sports surpassed or maintained previous year’s APR scores.

“Our progress is a direct result of the coaches’ commitment to academics, the SAS

[Student-Athletes Success] staff’s hard work and dedication to our student-athletes, and the efforts of the student-athletes to get it done in the classroom,” said Dr. Susan Gutkind, assistant athletics director for SAS.

“We see them more and more being excited and proud about their academic accomplishments. That’s when you know you’ve got the right kind of culture for success,” Gutkind added.
