“The Maddy Report,” which examines  issues and personalities of interest in the San Joaquin Valley, expands to a second television station at 7 p.m. Friday, June 3, when ValleyPBS begins airing the program produced by California State University, Fresno’s Maddy Institute.

For the past few years, “The Maddy Report” has been broadcast on an occasional basis by Fresno NBC affiliate KSEE-24. Adding ValleyPBS (Channel 18.1 in Fresno) will allow a 30-minute program to air each week at 5:30 a.m. Sunday on KSEE-24 (Channel 24.1) and repeat at 7 p.m. Friday.

The debut on ValleyPBS will be about the May revise of the state budget recently announced by Gov. Brown. That broadcast will include an opinion section with comments from a Valley newspaper editorial board writer. A companion website for the show, attached to the ValleyPBS website www.valleypbs.org, encourages viewer comments.

“This is an important step in advancing the Maddy Institute’s mission of providing the public a nonpartisan, interdisciplinary and fact-driven analysis of the issues,” said Maddy Institute Chair David Cogdill, a former California Senate minority leader.

“As one of the nation’s premier engaged universities, we are proud to be a partner in this joint venture that will bring the community a thoughtful, respectful discussion of the issues impacting the region and society as a whole,” said Fresno State President John D. Welty.

Other topics to be addressed by “The Maddy Report” include:

  • “Redistricting/Open Primaries”
  • “Reforming California – Part 1: California Forward’s Solutions”
  • “Reforming California – Part 2: Political Leaders Weigh In”

“The Maddy Report” is hosted by the Mark Keppler, executive director of the Maddy institute and a professor of management in Fresno State’s Craig School of Business.
