The Los Angeles Times made California State University, Fresno’s popular sweet corn Page 1 news on Friday, Aug. 5, then followed with more about Fresno State’s agricultural programs in Monday, Aug. 8, editions.

The Times http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-0805-fresno-sweet-corn-20110805%2C0%2C4448345.story reported that folks from as far away as Southern California make the trip to the Gibson Farm Market on campus just to buy corn.

The other article http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-college-agriculture-20110808,0,5744244.story reports on how cuts to higher education adversely affect the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology at Fresno State and other agricultural programs at California’s public universities.

Farm operational costs at Fresno State are offset by sales of produce, wine, dairy, meat and other food that are grown or made by students as part of the university’s hands-on agricultural training programs.
