With the kickoff of the 2012 Bulldog football season coming up fast on Sept. 1, Fresno State Athletics has partnered with the Fresno State Alumni Association to bring the Red Wave everything needed to show their loyalty in one package help support scholarships.

The Bulldogs released Gameday in a Box Monday, July 9, in office and tailgate editions. Each distinctive box contains Bulldog-branded items appropriate for either an office or tailgate. The option a fan selects, determines the contents (for example, plates, cups, a car flag and barbecue set for the tailgate box). Other items include Bulldog buttons, temporary tattoo transfers, decals, coasters, banners, pompoms, etc.

“We want to paint the Valley red and give our fans the best tailgate starter kit out there. Gameday in a Box gives us the tool to do just that,” said Paul Ladwig, senior associate athletics director of external relations.

“Being able to partner with the Fresno State Alumni Association to get this accomplished is tremendous and finding a local vendor to produce the box was a key,” added Ladwig. “Knowing the proceeds go towards the scholarship fund is a fantastic asset as well.”

“Fresno State has been about the Red Wave and the Valley for as long as I can remember,” said Jacquelyn Glasener, Fresno State’s director of Alumni Relations. “Growing up with Big 10 football, the towns would turn inside out and bleed their team’s colors on game day. We want to build on the Bulldog spirit that already exists all over the San Joaquin Valley.”

The project started when Fresno-based Fan in a Box owner Tim Leary approached the Alumni Association about creating a Bulldog Fan in a Box. Fan in a Box makes custom boxes to contain specialty items.

Glasener saw an opportunity to enhance Bulldog spirit in the region each day there is a game by putting several items into one Fresno State Bulldogs box. Fans can pull items from their box to decorate their office and tailgate venues, while stores and other businesses can use boxes to display their Bulldog pride and store their paraphernalia until the next game or season.

Each box costs $125, and also includes $140 worth of coupons for food, recreational activities and other services. Gameday in a Box is available through the Fresno State Alumni Association or at the Bulldog Shop, 1794 E. Barstow Ave. (just west of Cedar Avenue across from Bulldog Stadium).

A portion of Gameday in a Box proceeds will benefit the Bulldog Foundation Scholarship Fund and Fresno State Alumni Association programs and student scholarships.

Fresno State’s 2012 season begins Sept. 1 with the Bulldogs hosting Weber State in Bulldog Stadium for a nonconference game. Tickets are available through the Fresno State Ticket Office.
