Explore the importance of social media and its potential threats at a presentation and discussion, 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 25 at Fresno State’s Madden Library, 2nd Floor, South Wing, Auditorium room 2206. A reception will be held prior to the event, from    6-7 p.m., 2nd Floor, North Wing. Guest speakers Robert Sullivan, an attorney with McCormick Barstow LLP, and Jefferson Beavers, who teaches journalism, film and writing at Fresno City College, will describe social media, how it is used and why it is so important. They will also address its downsides and how individuals can protect themselves from identity theft and fraud. Parking on campus is free for this event. Reservations are required by Jan. 22.
