Fresno State appointed Dr. Robert M. Harper as dean of the Craig School of Business. Dr. William Covino, provost and vice president for academic affairs, announced Harper’s selection, which comes following a national search.

Harper has been interim dean of the college since 2008. Before that he served four years as associate dean. He joined the Fresno State faculty in 1990.

“Dr. Harper received high praise from the Craig School faculty, his colleague administrators and members of the business community,” said Covino. “His plans for continuing to advance the Craig School will help to assure academic and career success for our business and economic students.”

Harper said he is honored to continue to lead the college, which he said plays a critical role in driving the region’s economy by educating the next generation of business professionals.

Harper holds bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in accounting, all from Florida State University. He co-authored three editions of a popular intermediate accounting textbook, and wrote numerous articles in publications including the Journal of Accounting Research, Accounting Horizons, Behavioral Research in Accounting, and Auditing: A Journal of Theory and Practice.

The Craig School of Business was established in 1928 as the School of Commerce. It is now recognized as one of the top business schools in California, with a ranking from the Princeton Review. All of the programs in the college are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International).

Undergraduate degrees are offered in Business Administration and Economics. Masters of Business Administration degrees are available through the traditional program, executive program and agricultural executive program. The college will offer an online MBA starting in August 2013.
