The team of Rob Wike, Bruce Henderson, Brandon Williams and Dakota Daffron finished their 12 scoops – two pounds – of Fresno State ice cream in one minute and 59 seconds, reports Jodi Raley, lead student manager of the market. Dakota will be a freshman Mechanical Engineering major in the fall.

The proud but full winners were awarded a trophy in the inaugural Fresno State Dog Bowl Ice Cream-Eating Contest by Dr. Charles Boyer, dean of the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology and President-designate Dr. Joseph Castro, who also competed in the contest.

In addition to the trophy, the winners received a Gibson Farm Market gift basket containing an assortment of Fresno State Farm products including raisins, Bulldog Bark Bars, coated almonds and raisins, free ice cream scoop coupons, bowling coupons, Wild Water Adventure tickets and gift cards for the Kennel Bookstore on campus.

“This was a great, successful activity to help showcase not only the university’s farm market and our AG students, but the Central California agricultural region,” Boyer said.

“We were so glad our president-designate and his family joined in the fun. We teased him that this was the last leg of the presidential hiring process. He, and his family’s team, passed with flyer colors.”

Dr. Castro’s team, “Prez-Des Dogs,” was made up of daughter Lauren, sons Isaac and Jess. Castro’s wife Mary served as team manager.

Nearly 1,500 people attended the festival, held for the first time in the new Gibson Farm Market.

A wine tasting and food pairing followed from 3 – 6 p.m. with a $5 charge for that event only.
