Fresno State’s Department of Public Health is participating in the CSU Health Insurance Education Project, one of several outreach and education programs to help Californians with the new state health insurance exchange — Covered California — under the Affordable Care Act that takes effect in 2014. The enrollment period opens Tuesday, Oct. 1, with announcements in five California cities including at Fresno State, the only college venue selected. Diana S. Dooley, Secretary of Health and Human Services and board chair of Covered California, will speak at 1 p.m. as part of the Covered California™ Enrollment Fair, noon – 2 p.m. in the Free Speech Area. She will be joined by Fresno State President Joseph I. Castro, Associated Students Inc. Vice President Sean Kiernan and other campus co-sponsors. Students can meet the HIEP student outreach counselors and representatives from other agencies who can assist with information about insurance plan options and enrollment.
