The Latin American Film Festival at Fresno State opens at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, with a screening of the Mexican classic, “Hecho en México,” and a discussion led by director Duncan Bridgeman.

Presented by the Department of Chicano and Latin American Studies, the free, public festival features six on-campus film screenings through Dec. 5.

Friday’s screening will be in the Peters Education Center Auditorium (located in the Student Recreation Center at Shaw and Woodrow avenues, west of Save Mart Center).

The Latin American Film Festival, which features artists from Latin America invited to attend and discuss the films, will help promote the new bachelor’s degree in Latin American Studies being offered at Fresno State, said Dr. Annabella España-Nájera, assistant professor in Chicano and Latin American Studies and festival coordinator.

Arte Americas, an arts organization in Fresno, and CineCulture of Fresno State, are co-sponsoring “Hecho en México,” which is described as a vibrant musical odyssey through contemporary Mexico.

The 98-minute film features performances by rockers, rappers, folk artists and pop stars to present a unique portrait of the country and its people.

The film showcases Mexican music, from traditional music to pop rock and rap blended with interviews from Diego Luna, Lila Downs and many more. The film is in Spanish with English subtitles and rated R.

All films begin at 5:30 p.m. Parking on campus is free on weekends beginning at 4 p.m. Fridays. For events during parking enforcement hours, a parking code is available by emailing aespanajera@csufresno.edu.
