A social media campaign is underway for the Red Wave to encourage President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama to throw out the first pitch at Fresno State’s Kick-Off softball tournament home opener at 4:15 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14 at Bulldog Diamond. The First Family will be in in the Central Valley to address the area’s record-breaking drought and accompanying federal aid efforts. Fans are encouraged to tweet their support for the Athletics department’s invitation to the president using the #Obama1stPitch Twitter hashtag. Fresno State coach Trisha Ford invites the Red Wave to also bring their “honeys” for a Valentine’s Day outing for the home opener. The three-day tournament offers specials such as a 2-for-1 ticket deal for couples and a free session in the “Sweetheart Photo Booth.” Sunday is Staff and Faculty Appreciation Day (Fresno State employees free admission with a valid staff ID) when Fresno State President Joseph I. Castro will throw out the first pitch at the 1:30 p.m. game in honor of President’s Day weekend. Kids can run the bases after the tournament finale vs. UC Santa Barbara at 3:45 p.m. For ticket prices, tourney schedule and special offer.
