Fresno State’s Barking Bulldogs debate team earned the No. 1 ranking in the Pacific District 1 National Debate Tournament qualifier at Pepperdine University Feb. 22-23. Andrew Botwin and Kodey Henson took first place in the novice division. Four Fresno State teams competed in the novice, open, and NDT qualifier divisions with several advancing to the Cross Examination Debate Association Nationals March 21 at Indiana University in Bloomington. Candis Tate and Sierra Holley earned a bid to the prestigious National Debate Tournament to become the first two African-American women from District 1 to qualify, reports Coach Dee Cooper.
