The California Highway Patrol Memorial services for fallen officers Brian Law and Juan Gonzalez, who was a Fresno State alumnus, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, at the Save Mart Center at Fresno State. Doors open at 8:30 a.m.

Heavy vehicular traffic is expected in the areas surrounding Fresno State and motorists are advised to avoid Shaw Avenue in the vicinity of the Save Mart Center if possible. Those attending the memorial service: please plan to arrive early and allow extra travel time due to the heavy volume of traffic and always follow signage and the direction of the traffic control officers. Carpooling is highly advised. Other affected areas:

  • Chestnut Avenue between Barstow and Shaw will be closed to through traffic 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Matoian Avenue will only be utilized for memorial attendees.
  • Woodrow Avenue north of Shaw will be closed to through traffic beginning at 6 a.m.

Students and employees parking on the east side of campus should access at Shaw and Maple Avenues and always follow signage and the direction of the traffic control officers. Thank you for your patience as we take a day to honor the two fallen officers. Original report.
