Classic rapper Kurtis Blow will talk to Fresno State students for a project by Dr. T. Hasan Johnson, Africana Studies Program assistant professor, at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 27 in the Agricultural Sciences Building, Room 109. Blow, who in 1979 became the first commercially successful rapper and the first to sign with a major record label, will showcase a film on the origins of hip-hop, followed by audience questions for Johnson’s Hip-Hop Research and Interview Project. “The Breaks,” a single from Blow’s 1980 debut album, is the first certified gold record rap song.
