Moses Menchaca, a senior Political Science major from Patterson, was re-elected Fresno State’s student body president for 2014-15 as students set a new voter participation record.

Three days of online voting in Associate Students, Inc. (ASI) elections concluded at noon today with 2,620 votes, or 12.45 percent voter participation, reported Jessica Boujikian, ASI election commissioner. The previous high was last year’s 1,912 voters.

The Fresno chapter of the League of Women Voters, which has assisted at the polls in past years, tallied and verified the results.

Menchaca and 17 other students elected this week will take their oaths of office June 1. Today’s tally will be certified in 21 days, said Tara Powers-Meade, ASI coordinator.

Anthony Farnesi, a junior Physics and Computer Science major, was elected finance vice president with 1,268 votes. Kiran Dhanjan, an Economics and Political Science major from Clovis, was elected vice president for external affairs with 2,205 votes. She ran unopposed.

Seven at-large Senate seats and eight Senate positions representing specific schools or colleges were also filled.

The ASI executive vice president will be chosen by Senate members at their first meeting in June.
