A bike path construction project began March 24 at Fresno State and completion is set for late May with the existing sidewalk widened to accommodate bicycles and pedestrians. It will run along the south side of Barstow Avenue from Campus Drive through Jackson Avenue, terminating at the driveway east of the University Police Department. Also, sidewalk repairs and new tree plantings are planned for this summer along Barstow east of Cedar to update the current landscape and enhance the roadway. The sidewalk just north of Bulldog Diamond (southeast Barstow and Cedar) will be repaired then, too. Tree removal and replanting along Barstow in front of the police station is complete. Hackberry and Modesto ash trees were replaced with the Keith Davey Chinese Pistache variety that produce vibrant colors in the fall and a great amount of shade in the summer. The root systems will not lift the walkway, said Robert Boyd, associate vice president for Facilities Management. INFO: 559.278.2373.
