Maria Madrigal Shaffer, a Fresno State alumna with 23 years of experience in the health care field, is the new director of the University Health and Psychological Services Department. Her selection was announced by Dr. Frank Lamas, new vice president for student affairs. Madrigal Shaffer, 48, began her new assignment June 2. She oversees the Student Health Center and the Psychological Counseling and Health Promotion and Wellness programs. She served as chief operations officer for the California Cancer Associates for Research and Excellence for 13 years. She also served as director of cancer services at Community Regional Medical Center and coordinator of patient support services. Madrigal Shaffer earned a master’s degree in marriage and family child counseling at Fresno State in 1997 and an MBA at the University of Phoenix in 2006.
