Is it possible for a new business idea to go from concept to launch in just 54 hours? A group of entrepreneurs and developers will find out this weekend at Fresno State.

The Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship is hosting Startup Weekend, Sept. 5-7. While this is the first Startup Weekend at Fresno State, more than 1,500 of these events around the world have resulted in more than 13,000 startups.

Beginning with open mic pitches on Friday, attendees bring their best ideas and inspire others to join their teams. On Saturday and Sunday, teams will develop a business model, code, design and perform market validation.

The weekend culminates with team presentations at 6 p.m., Sunday Sept. 7 at the University Business Center on campus.

“At its core, Startup Weekend is a hands-on experience where entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs can find out if startup ideas are viable,” said Renan de Lima, a senior at Fresno State and an event organizer. “It’s also a stepping stone to building a community of entrepreneurs who can feed off of each other’s talent, creativity and support.”

Tickets can be purchased online. Registration to participate in the full three days is $79.99 and tickets to attend the Sunday showcase are $19.99.
