Children’s book author Joanne Rocklin will speak at the Arne Nixon Center Advocates’ annual meeting at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24 in the Henry Madden Library, room 2206 (2nd floor, south wing).
The former elementary school teacher has written over 20 books for children, which have received numerous awards and honors. Some of her books include “The Five Lives of Our Cat Zook,” “One Day and One Amazing Morning on Orange Street” and “For Your Eyes Only.”
Rocklin’s newest book “Fleabrain Loves Franny” tells the story of polio-stricken Franny Katzenback who finds herself trapped and lonely and in need of a friend. After becoming enthralled with the newly-published “Charlotte’s Web,” Franny begins escapades with a well-read, eloquent flea who has taken up residence on her dog’s tail.
The Arne Nixon Center Advocates is the support group for the Arne Nixon Center for the Study of Children’s Literature, a department of the Henry Madden Library. Its mission is to promote awareness of the center and generate excitement about literature for young people.
The free event will start with with a catered reception before the program. Rocklin’s books will also be available for sale and autographing after the presentation. Unrestricted parking is available in lots P30 and P31 (closest to the library).
