The Fresno State Bulldog Marching Band is ready to rouse the Red Wave with a halftime performance of “Soul Sistas” — a mix of soul artists from different generations — at the Bulldogs’ football home opener at 7:30 p.m. Saturday against No. 21 Nebraska.
Leading the performance will be new Associate Director of Bands Steve McKeithen, who previously directed Northwestern State University’s 300-member band.
“With 211 Bulldog Marching Band members this year, we are pumped up and ready to rock the field Saturday,” McKeithen said. “I am excited to show off the hard work our band has been putting into rehearsals.”
He said the “Soul Sistas” production consists of “a medley of tunes that are recognizable and entertaining.”
The band will start its day at 5:25 p.m. at the Music Building before marching across campus to the Bulldog Stadium tailgate areas, where it will split in two and visit various tailgates in the Red Lot and White Lot.
McKeithen has more than 17 years of teaching experience, including marching band design, adjudication and curriculum. He was a high school band director for 10 years at Seguin High School in Texas and head administrator for the instrumental music program for Seguin Independent School District.
The band will do an encore performance of “Soul Sistas” on Sept. 20 at Fresno State’s game against Southern Utah.

ASI to host first student tailgate
Associated Students, Incorporated (ASI) will host a student tailgate party from 5-7 p.m. Saturday in the Red Lot, Space 57 (corner of Cedar Avenue and Bulldog Lane). The tailgate is free and open to all students. Free pizza will be provided.
