Fresno State presents Cross Cultural Celebration Week Sept. 15-19 to share the diverse cultures that make up University life.

A continuation of the “FresWOW” Weeks of Welcome campaign, the activities are in partnership with the Central Valley Cultural Heritage Institute, the Latina/o Faculty and Staff Association, the International Student Services and Programs office, the United Sorority and Fraternity Council and Student Affairs.

“At Fresno State, we embrace diversity and are excited for the opportunity to share many cultures with the Fresno State campus,” said Melissa Ginotti, director of the Student Involvement Office that is co-sponsoring the FresWOW campaign with Associated Students Inc. and the Dog Days New Student Orientation program.

The observance also kicks off Hispanic Heritage Month Sept. 15-Oct.15.

Events include:

  • Greek Day Fraternity and Sorority Expo from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 15 in Memorial Court (in front of the Kennel Bookstore). Students can learn about campus Greek life and the 44 fraternities and sororities recognized by the University, including multicultural and Latino chapters. This will include music, desserts from around the world and a festival.
  • Greek council will have information tables set up Sept.16-19 in Memorial Court (near the fountain).
  • The Independence of the Americas exhibit Sept. 15-19 on the second floor of the Henry Madden Library will display various artifacts in recognition of the Independence of the Americas.
  • The Justin Garza Bone Marrow and Blood Drive, Sept. 16-18 at the Save Mart Center parking lot. It is in support of the Fresno State alum and Central High School football coach who is campaigning to raise awareness and encourage more Latinos to donate blood.
    • The Latina/o Faculty and Staff Association presents the free, public Bienvenida (welcome) event from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Cesar Chavez Monument in the Peace Garden with music, dancers, mariachis, a resource fair, a raffle and a taquizo (free tacos).
    • International Coffee Hour, from 2-3 p.m. Sept. 16, features a discussion about Mexico by students Alexandria Mendoza and Delores Peralta.
    • On Sept. 17, the Cross Cultural Celebration from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on the University Student Union balcony will include music, performances and desserts from around the world. From 7-9 p.m., the Cross Cultural Festival will include a United Sorority and Fraternity Council social with music and food.
    • United Sorority and Fraternity Council Grand Tour from 7-9 p.m. Sept. 18 in North Gym, Room 118, the council’s multi-cultural fraternities and sororities will discuss their respective organizations.
