Betty Yee, a member of the California State Board of Equalization who is running for state controller, will talk about the role of women in California politics from 4-5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, in Music Building Room 160 at Fresno State. Yee, who represents more than 9 million Californians along northern and central coastal California in the board’s first district, has led the effort to regulate medical cannabis dispensaries. Other accomplishments include enacting tax equity for same-sex couples and promoting e-fairness to require online retailers to collect and remit tax on sales to California consumers. Her opponent in the upcoming election is Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin. The free, public talk is presented by the Women’s Studies Program.
