The Fresno State football program hits a major milestone at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3 with the 1,000th game of its 93-year history when the Bulldogs host rival San Diego State at Bulldog Stadium in the “Battle for the Oil Can.” The Bulldogs will celebrate the milestone by wearing new navy uniforms and chrome helmets. Fans are also encouraged to wear navy. Fresno State’s all-time leading passer Derek Carr, the rookie starting quarterback for the Oakland Raiders, will return to Fresno to serve as the team’s honorary captain. The Bulldogs played their first game in 1921 at home under head coach Arthur W. Jones against LaVerne College. A 46-0 victory marked the first of 112 shutouts in school history. A reflection of the program’s history will also be included in the game day magazine, GRIDIRON, which can be purchased at the stadium gates and concessions for $5.
