The Chicano and Latin American Studies program will begin the Latin American Film Festival with a viewing of “El Libertador,” at 5:30 p.m. Friday Oct. 17 at the Leon S. and Pete P. Peters Educational Center in the Student Recreation Center (Woodrow and Shaw avenues). The film journeys through the impassioned struggle of Simón Bolívar’s (Édgar Ramírez) fight for independence in Latin America from Spain and his vision of a united South American nation. A discussion lead by Dr. Maria-Aparecida Lopes will follow. Parking is free after 4 p.m. on Fridays and screenings are free and open to the public.
