A candlelight vigil for world peace will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2 at Fresno State’s Peace Garden as part of a community-wide celebration of Gandhi Jayanti, the observance Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday.

Participants are encouraged to bring a candle.

The community celebration continues at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4 in the Peace Garden near the Gandhi monument (just north of the library) with a garlanding and flower ceremony. Participants are encouraged to bring flowers.

Dr. Lynnette Zelezny, Fresno State’s provost and vice president for academic affairs, and Jim Yovino, Fresno County Superintendent of Schools, will speak at Saturday’s event.

Entertainment will include classical and folk dances.

A photo exhibition, “Life of Gandhi,” is now on display through Oct. 5 in the Henry Madden Library on campus.

All events are free and open to the public.
