Grants to support campus initiatives at Fresno State total nearly $6 million since the President’s Cabinet established the office of University Initiatives in early 2012 to pursue priority goals.
Academic Affairs was awarded $3.5 million for a variety of projects, including implementing and expanding the DISCOVERe program to integrate tablet technology into the learning experience. One of the grants brings together nine Hispanic-serving education institutions in the valley centered on shared tablet technology initiatives.
Fresno State secured a major U.S. Department of Education Hispanic-Serving Institution award to create The Blue Ribbon Online Graduate Campus to better serve the needs of the entire San Joaquin Valley.
Two companion awards from the CSU Chancellor’s Office support Southeast Asian-American student success at Fresno State, and a Wells Fargo Foundation award will support the completion of a study of the impact of the drought in the central San Joaquin Valley.
Administrative Services was awarded more than $2.275 million for projects that green the campus. A key group of awards support the construction of the new and safe bikeways along Barstow Avenue, greening Fresno State vehicle fleets, purchasing cordless zero-emission lawn equipment and advancing “e-mobility,” so students can access classroom software to work from home.
A California Energy Commission award funds building of the first electric vehicle charging stations at Fresno State. They are scheduled to open in fall 2015.
Administrative Services has also landed close to $100,000 to support the ongoing neighborhood revitalization of El Dorado Park. Critical among this work was Fresno State’s partnership with the City of Fresno to secure the White House Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative’s “Building Neighborhood Capacity Program” grant award that funded on-site community revitalization specialists.
