Memorial services for two College of Health and Human Services alumni will be held Friday, Dec. 5. The service for Cynthia Benzler is 4-5:30 p.m. at the Central California Social Welfare Evaluation, Research and Training Center in Fresno (1625 E. Shaw Ave., Suite 106). The service for Ana Tapia is 6 p.m. on campus in the Satellite Student Union. Ms. Benzler, who died Oct. 25, was the executive director of Castle Keep Elder Abuse Prevention, a nonprofit she founded to increase elder abuse awareness and assisting older adult victims. She graduated from Fresno State in 2009 with a B.S. in criminology and a certificate in Gerontology. She was an avid supporter of the Department of Social Work Education’s Gerontology program. Ms. Tapia, who died Nov. 7 in a car accident, was currently in her first year of the Masters of Public Health program after earning her B.S. in public health in May. Her memorial is coordinated by the Department of Public Health and the student club EsTuDios. The club is also coordinating a public memorial Mass on Friday, Dec. 19 at the St. Paul Newman Center in Fresno (1572 E. Barstow Ave).
