The Office of Community and Economic Development (OCED) and the Community and Regional Planning Center at Fresno State were awarded a $39,880 environmental grant from Fresno Regional Foundation.
Starting in January, the one-year grant will allow establishment of StreetsAlive, a walking and bicycling audit program designed to promote walkable and bicycle-friendly communities within Fresno and Kings counties. StreetsAlive will provide a platform to stimulate ideas in response to local challenges and act as a first step towards a Complete Streets Policy.
The StreetsAlive initiative is to facilitate and inspire long-term policy change where communities recognize walkability and bicycle infrastructure and possible environmental changes that provide opportunities for improvement and embrace the opportunity to make these changes.
In partnership with the Office of Community and Economic Development and Fresno State’s College of Social Sciences and Department of Geography and City and Regional Planning, Community and Regional Planning Center acts as a resource hub providing services that range from regional grant administration to general plan development.
StreetsAlive will provide the selected communities with the resources and knowledge to foster community growth and development from the ground up.
The grant will be presented on Tuesday, Dec. 16 from 4-6 p.m. at the Fresno Regional Foundation Grant Reception at Bitwise Industries (2210 San Joaquin St.) in Fresno.
