Fresno State President Joseph I. Castro announced the appointment of alumna Jessica Lawrence to the University Advisory Board, a panel of community members who provide advice on improvement and development of the university.

Lawrence is a territory sales representative in Fresno for Alltech, a producer of natural animal nutrition and health products that is the only privately held company among the top-10 animal health companies in the world. She also is a regulations liaison for Manuel and Alda Lawrence Dairy in Hanford.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science, dairy production management in 2008 at Fresno State, where she was president of the Dairy Club and also now serves on the California Milk Advisory Board as District 7 alternate board member. She is a board member of Cabrillo Civic Club Tulare #12 and a member of the Luso-American Fraternal Federation.

“I am pleased and honored that Ms. Lawrence has agreed to serve on the University Advisory Board,” Castro said. “She is an alumna who has been actively involved in the dairy industry with her family and she is a leader of Portuguese-American community groups in the South Valley. Her unique perspective will be valuable in helping to further strengthen our campus’ agricultural programs.”

Lawrence replaces Gena Strang-Behrens, who resigned to take a staff position with the University Advancement division on campus.

The University Advisory Board, chaired by Sandy Brown, includes members Juan Arambula, Nancy Ayala, Armen Bacon, Barry Bedwell, Noemi Donoso, Katherine Flores, Will Lyles, J. Michael McGowan, James Shekoyan, Julia Tone and Zoua Vang.
