The Master of Fine Arts Program in Creative Writing at Fresno State is seeking applicants for the 2015 Andrés Montoya Memorial Scholarships, which honor the late poet and teacher Andrés Montoya. The Montoya family awards two scholarships of $500 – one at the undergraduate level and one at the graduate level – each fall to students who demonstrate significant interest in Chicano/a culture and/or history, and who are pursuing a career in creative writing. Montoya graduated from Fresno State in 1992, where he served as student body president in 1991-92. He died in the spring of 1999. His new posthumous collection of poems, “A Jury of Trees,” is due out in the fall from the University of Notre Dame Press, edited by Daniel Chacón.
