Advanced public relations students in Fresno State’s Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) Department have collaborated to organize the first-ever MCJ Week, April 20-24. MCJ Week will showcase the department and reconnect with alumni for its five options (multimedia production, advertising, print journalism, broadcast journalism and public relations).

Activities will take place on campus and include contests, alumni panels and presentations, project showcases and networking opportunities. Event highlights include talks by Terry LaBrue with LaBrue Communications in Seattle; Robin Samora with Robin Samora, Inc. in Boston; Mike Osegueda with Yahoo Sports; and Ron Orozco, recently retired from The Fresno Bee. Also featured will be the “Strike it Up with a Pro” event with public relations practitioners.

The theme is #GoBrandYourself and each day of the week will be dedicated to a respective major option:

  • Multimedia Production Day, April 20
    Advertising Day, April 21
  • Print Journalism Day, April 22
  • Broadcast Journalism Day, April 23
  • Public Relations Day, April 24

Full daily agendas and details can be found at www.FresnoState.edu/MCJ.

MCJ Week is being planned and implemented by 29 students in the Public Relations Cases and Campaigns course taught at Fresno State by Betsy Hays

“These students are amazing,” Hays said. “Their creativity and passion have shined through this whole process.”

MCJ Week is co-sponsored by Fresno State’s Associated Students, Inc. and several student organizations – the Public Relations Student Society of America, TALK Strategic Promotions Solutions, B# Video Club and the Radio TV Digital News Association.
