Dr. Veena Howard, a specialist in religious studies with an expertise in Asian religious traditions, will discuss “Patriarchy, Myth and Gandhi” from noon-1:30 p.m. Monday, March 9, in the Henry Madden Library, Room 3212, as part of Fresno State’s Herstory Month. The talk is presented by the Women’s Studies Brown Bag Series. Howard, an assistant professor in the Philosophy Department at Fresno State, will explore how Gandhi used a unique theory to confront Indian patriarchal customs including purdah, dowry and prohibition of widow remarriage by reinterpreting narratives of legendary women from Hinduism’s epic traditions.
