Fresno State will host the third of  three public hearings at 2 p.m. Friday (March 6) in North Gym Room 118  for comments on its proposal modifying the current campus enrollment plan to include impaction starting in the 2016-17 academic year.

“Fresno State is seeking permission from the California State University system for a modification,” said Dr. Lynnette Zelezny, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs. “The CSU designates programs as impacted when more applications from regularly eligible applicants are received than can be accommodated. Candidates for admission must meet all of the campus’ adjusted admission criteria,” she said.

The University proposes to implement impaction for all first-time freshmen and new upper division transfers. Impaction will include a variety of tools to manage enrollment. The proposed changes have been discussed at two hearings already:  March 2 on campus and March 3 in Visalia.

“Demand for admission to Fresno State is almost double that of the CSU average,” said Dr. Frank Lamas, vice president for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. “We believe that with impaction we will see an improved student academic profile, retention and graduation rates of our students.”

With impaction, all  admissible students will be grouped by intended program and then rank ordered by eligibility criteria that will be established for each program. Depending on enrollment needs and space availability, minimum eligibility criteria will be established by program separately for local students and non-local students. Offers of admission will then be given to students who meet the established minimum criteria.

For some programs, those eligible will differ depending on demand and academic qualifications.
