Two teams of Fresno State marketing students are attempting to break published world records in the next week on campus.

The Most Amount of People Doing Sit-Ups Simultaneously” will be from noon-1 p.m. Sunday, April 12, at the kinesiology field and “The Largest Human Video Game Controller” record attempt will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 17, during Vintage Days on the Music Building southeast lawn.

The sit-ups project seeks more than 500 participants to break the record of 414 set in Winston-Salem in February. The field is next to the ropes course, behind (north side of) University Dining Hall. Enter from Cedar and Scott, one street north of Shaw. Park in Lot 27 by residence halls. Map.

Participants are asked to check in beginning at 11:30 a.m. with the actual record attempt around 12:30 p.m. (it’s not the most sit-ups one can do, but the most people attempting sit-ups at one time).

Participants are asked to bring a can of food to benefit the Bulldog Pantry and the first 500 will be eligible for $3,000 worth of prizes, including a buy one get one free ticket to the Island Waterpark for the first 500 people who attend the event.

“We wanted to break a world record that involved not only Fresno State, but also the Fresno community at large,” said Julia Loucks one of the project coordinators, “It was important for us to raise awareness about health and fitness, something that we feel is often neglected by our generation.”

The second team seeks to form a line in the shape of a video game controller with 300 participants in an effort to break therecord of 259 people set by Sony Hong Kong  in 2013.

The attempts are senior projects of the Strategic Marketing 188 class taught by Dr. William Rice in the Craig School of Business.
