The Fresno City Council honored several Fresno State programs and initiatives today at its weekly meeting at City Hall in downtown Fresno. Councilmembers Paul Caprioglio and Esmerelda Soria presented proclamations for Associated Students Inc. Day, Autism Awareness Month and the new Armenian Genocide Monument that was dedicated on campus last week. ASI was recognized as “a student movement promoting safety through service” for its community revitalization efforts that earned a Student Affairs Professionals in Higher Education (NASPA) 2015 Excellence Award recently. The Autism Center at Fresno State was recognized for its many Autism Awareness Month events, including a new partnership with Valley Children’s Hospital and its first Fun and Run for Autism. The University’s dedication of the new Armenian Genocide Monument on April 23 commemorated the 100th anniversary of the genocide, designed not only as a remembrance to lives lost and affected but also to educate others about genocides throughout the world and inspire future generations.
