Fresno State President Joseph I. Castro will be honored at the 30thAnnualHorizonAwardsCelebration for his work and support of the Graduate Art Studios in downtown Fresno.

Castro will join this year’s winners and over 100 distinguished guests for the ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, at theFresnoArtMuseum (2233 N. First St.).

The Horizon Awards recognizes artists and patrons of the arts for their achievements and personal commitment to the arts in the Fresno community.

Poet and educator and Fresno State alumnus Soul Choj Vang also will be honored.  He earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing in 1999 and bachelor’s degree in English in 1996 from Fresno State and currently teaches English at Fresno City College. He is widely believed to be the first Hmong American to earn an MFA degree.
