The Fresno State CineCulture Series and the Armenian Studies Program are sponsoring a special sneak preview screening of “Aram, Aram” at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28 to kick off the fall 2015 lineup of CineCulture films.
Most CineCulture screenings are at 5:30 p.m. on Fridays during the fall semester in the Leon and Pete Peters Education Center Auditorium (5010 N. Woodrow Ave — west of Save Mart Center in the Student Recreation Center Building). Some screenings are held with Fresno Filmworks at Tower Theater (815 E. Olive Ave.) – see full list below.
All films screened on campus are free and open to the public. Parking is not enforced after 4 p.m. on Fridays.
The “Aram, Aram” screening tonight in the Peters Education Center also is the first in the Armenian Studies Program Fall Lecture Series and is supported by the Leon S. Peters Foundation.
Director/writer Christopher Chambers will be the discussant following the film, which is the first American independent drama to take viewers inside the Armenian community of Los Angeles. Suddenly uprooted from his home in Beirut, a 12 year-old Armenian boy, Aram, is sent to live with his grandfather in America where he struggles to navigate the clash between old-world values and new-school Armenian identity in Little Armenia.
Chambers is a graduate of Wesleyan University and the American Film Institute.
