The Third Annual Latin American Film Festival kicks off with “Which Way Home” at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, in the Alice Peters Auditorium (Peters Business Building 191).

Presented by the Chicano and Latin American Studies Department and sponsored by the College of Social Sciences and the Consulado de México en Fresno, the festival features three films this fall.

The first, “Which Way Home,” is a documentary highlighting the experiences of children who immigrate to the United States from Latin America and the difficulties they face as they travel through Mexico.which-way-home

The documentary won several awards, including the 2010 Emmy Award for Outstanding Informational Programming, and was an Academy Award Nominee for Best Documentary Feature.

Dr. Stephany Slaughter, field producer and translator, will lead a discussion about the film.

Slaughter is an associate professor of Spanish at Alma College in Michigan and specializes in Latin American — specifically Mexican — film, theater and performance, and focusing on gender studies, the Mexican Revolution and immigration.

This screening is co-sponsored by Fresno State’s Department of Political Science.

Remaining film screenings in October include:
