This week’s CineCulture film series at Fresno State will be a two-day event beginning with a lecture at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, in the Henry Madden Library (Room 2206), and the screening of “Gett: The Trial of Vivian Amsalem” at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, in the Pete P. Peters Education Center (in the Student Recreation Center). Dr. Anat Gilboa, professor at University of California, Los Angeles, will discuss “Representations of Jewish Women in Israeli Film: Gender, Religion and the State in Israel” Thursday as part of the Jewish Lecture Series presented by the Jewish Studies Program. The film features an Israeli woman, trapped in a loveless marriage, who has been applying for a divorce for three years but her religiously devout husband continually refuses. She finds herself on trial according to her country’s marriage laws under which only Orthodox rabbis can legalize a union or its dissolution. All CineCulture events on campus are free and open to the public. Parking is free on weekends abd after 4 p.m. on Fridays.
