November 2 — 2:25 p.m.

Fresno State Police Chief David Huerta said today that University police arrested a suspect who allegedly made a threat on social media.

Huerta said the suspect was arrested within two hours after police learned of a Yik Yak posting threatening use of a weapon. The suspect, a male Fresno State student, was arrested on campus and is being interviewed. No other details about the suspect have been released.

Fresno State administrators followed the situation closely with the Fresno State Police Department with a top priority to make sure that the campus community was safe.

Regular updates were sent via social media, through Bulldog Alert, the campus emergency text system, and through campus email to faculty, staff and students. As soon as the suspect was in custody and police were certain he acted alone, the campus was notified that classes would continue.

We are grateful to everyone who provided information which enabled the campus and Fresno State law enforcement to act quickly.

We want to remind faculty, staff and students to update their contact information and cell phone numbers to receive emergency text messages. To update information, students, faculty and staff should go to the MyFresnoState portal and choose “self service” and follow prompts to update information.
