Drew Lynch, the runner-up on last year’s “America’s Got Talent” television show who shared his story of how a softball accident resulted in a severe stutter, will perform at Fresno State’s Satellite Student Union at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9.

His story captured the hearts of America, and his stand-up comedy routine carried him to the finale of the show’s 10th season. Lynch finished second to ventriloquist Paul Zerdin.

Originally from Indianapolis, Lynch moved to Los Angeles at age 19 with aspirations of becoming an actor. A year into his acting career, he was hit in the throat with a softball while playing recreationally and left with a severe stutter that threatened his hopes of ever performing again.

But Lynch’s drive to become an entertainer forced him in a different direction: through stand-up comedy, he started reflecting on the “softball that humbly changed his life.” His ability to deal with his stutter and making it relatable to real-life situations on “Season 10 of America’s Got Talent” jumpstarted his comic career.

Inspired by comedians Bo Burnham and Louis C.K, Lynch now headlines comedy clubs across the country. He has appeared on the “Dr. Oz Show,” and as a celebrity guest on the game show “Idiot Test.”

Following his Fresno State performance, Lynch will take questions from Fresno State students who will be invited to share their “moment of change” and how they adapted.

The event, sponsored by the Student Involvement Center, Services for Students with Disabilities and the Advocates for Students with Disabilities club, is free for all students with a valid Fresno State ID and costs $5 for the public. Tickets will be sold at the door.
