The first installment of the fall 2016 Latinas in Academia Lecture Series, “Forging Paths to Graduate School,” runs noon – 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14 in the University Student Union (Room 309).

Co-sponsored by the Graduate Net Initiative and the Women’s Studies Program, the series highlights the experiences and challenges of Latinas in the academic world to motivate more students to attend graduate school.

Several talks are planned throughout the semester, starting with a lecture by Dr. Kimberly Aguilar, assistant professor in the Department of Communication, and Gaby Encinas, coordinator of Fresno State’s Dream Success Center.

Aguilar’s expertise is in instructional communication and quantitative research methods.

Encinas worked as an academic advisor with the College Assistance Migrant Program and the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology before she was named to lead the University’s new Dream Success Center, established to provide academic support for Dreamers and help them realize their college goals.
