roxanne-FB crpAward-winning author Dr. Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz will kick off the Women’s Studies Lecture Series at Fresno State at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, in the North Gym (room 118) with a talk about myths surrounding Native American culture and history titled “The U.S. Origin Myth.”

Dunbar-Ortiz is the winner of the 2015 American Book Award for her book, “An Indigenous Peoples’ History of the United States.” Her newest books, “All the Real Indians Died Off” and “Twenty Other Myths about Native Americans,” will be published in October. In tackling myths about Native American culture and history that have misinformed generations, she traces how ideas evolved throughout history.

Dunbar-Ortiz is Professor Emerita in CSU-East Bay’s Ethnic Studies Program and a co-founder of both its Ethnic Studies and Women’s Studies Programs.
