LATINfilmfest16 crp webThe Latin American Film Festival at Fresno State kicks off with the film “The Violin Teacher” from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, in the Peters Education Center Auditorium as part of the CineCulture Series tribute to Hispanic Heritage Month.

The film’s director, Sergio Santos, will discuss the 102-minute film, which is in Portuguese with English subtitles. The film tells the story of Laerte, played by Lázaro Ramos, who, after failing to be admitted into the Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo, is forced to give music classes to teenagers in a public school.

The film screening is co-sponsored by Fresno State’s Department of Chicano and Latin American Studies and the Department of History.

All CineCulture films screened on campus are free and open to the public. Parking is free on weekends, beginning at 4 p.m. on Fridays.
